→ National business registers will be harmonised and enabled to exchange information;
→ Euro-Groups Register will be enhanced and the quality of data on multinational companies will improve;
→ Better statistics capturing economic globalisation will be produced;
→ ESS partners will share statistical services across national business registers (similar to apps on a smartphone).
|
→ A pilot on the feasibility of exchange of micro-data on intra-EU trade in goods was conducted (SIMSTAT);
→ Cost-benefit analysis of the options for a redesign of production of statistics on intra-EU trade in goods was carried out (REDESIGN);
→Based on the results of the two projects, the ESS Committee agreed in May 2016 on the key elements of the modernised system of intra-EU trade in goods statistics.

→ The VALIDATION project developed common methodological and architectural frameworks for data validation.
→ The project paved the way for more transparency in the validation of data transmitted to Eurostat and therefore contributed to an increase in the quality and credibility of European statistics.
→The project facilitated the sharing and re-use of IT solutions for validation, thus enabling an overall reduction of IT development and maintenance costs across the ESS.
This project covers the following key areas of the ESS Vision 2020:
Strive for quality | Promote efficiency in production processes |

→ Access to harmonised administrative sources will be improved;
→ Methodological knowledge on integration of administrative data into statistical production will be enhanced;
→ Tools will be provided to assess the quality of outputs based on administrative sources alone or together with survey data;
→ The access and use for statistical purposes of administrative data already collected by Commission services will be piloted.

→ Improvements to the IT platform (EDAMIS) will enhance the data exchange services across the ESS by increasing the data exchange capacity and upgrading the security to allow for micro-data transmission to and from Eurostat.
→ Standard, secure communication procedures and improved physical networks will be offered to ESS Members.
→ ESS Members will set up the data exchange according to their own security policies and infrastructure.

→ A catalogue of common statistical services, such as software solutions, that could will be shared across the ESS, will be established;
→ Support will be provided for implementation through guidelines and recommendations describing service definitions;
→ Faster implementation of new production processes as well as cost reduction for development and maintenance of information systems will be enabled if re-usable services are integrated into Member States' systems.

→ Pilots will be conducted to gain experience in using big data in official statistics;
→ Dedicated collaborative communities will be created to discuss specific data-related topics;
→ The potential of the use of Big Data for statistical purposes to reduce the costs of statistical production, extend the range of statistical products and increase the timeliness of official statistics will be explored.
