Education and training – Overview
What information can I find here?
Education and training statistics provide information on the participation of individuals in education and training activities, education financing and teaching staff as well as on outcomes of education.
Education and training statistics cover the following broad topics:
- Participation in education and training (including adult learning);
- Learning mobility;
- Education personnel;
- Education finance;
- Education and training outcomes;
- Language learning and self-reported language skills.
For more detailed information on which data and indicators are covered by these topics, please see the page 'Information on data' in this section.
Why are these statistics important and what is the European Commission doing in this regard?
The indicators "early leavers from education and training" and "tertiary educational attainment" are two of the headline indicators used to monitor the Europe 2020 strategy. These two indicators along with others such as "adult participation in learning" or the "employment rate of recent graduates" figure amongst the indicators referred to in the Strategic framework on Education and Training 2020 (ET 2020).
Education and training statistics are also of interest for everyone – issues related to education, vocational training and adult learning are of direct concern for EU citizens.
