Education and training – Overview
What information can I find here?
Education and training statistics describe education and training systems in the EU and their outcomes. They provide data on:
- participation in education and training (including adult learning)
- learning mobility
- education personnel
- education finance
- education and training outcomes
- language learning and self-reported language skills
Education and training statistics are available for the EU, the Member States, EFTA and some candidate and potential candidate countries. Several indicators are also available at regional level.
For more detailed information on which data and indicators are covered by these topics, please see the page 'Information on data' in this section.
Why are these statistics important, and what is the European Commission doing in this regard?
Key indicators such as 'participation in early childhood education', 'early leavers from education and training' and 'tertiary educational attainment' are among the indicators for which the Council resolution on a strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training towards the European Education Area and beyond (2021-2030) sets EU-level targets, meaning reference levels of European average performance in education and training.
