Methodology - Asylum and Managed Migration

Methodology

Eurostat collects asylum and managed migration data from EU and EFTA Members States Ministries of Interior and related immigration agencies. All data collections are based on respective Eurostat methodological and technical guidance for each of the data collection.

There are four main data collections with difference periodicities in the area of asylum and managed migration:

Asylum statistics

This data collection provides monthly (asylum applications), quarterly (first instance decisions) and annual (final instance decisions, resettled persons, and asylum applications of unaccompanied minors) statistics. Monthly and quarterly data are sent within two months since the end of the reference period. Annual data are sent within three months since the end of the reference year.

Dublin statistics

This data collection provides annual statistics. Data are sent within three months since the end of the reference year.

Residence permits (Resper) statistics

This data collection provides annual data. Data are sent within six months since the end of the reference year.

Enforcement of Immigration Legislation (EIL) statistics

This data collection provides annual and quarterly statistics. Annual data are sent within three months since the end of the reference year. Quarterly data are sent within two months since the end of the reference period.
