International Women's Day

On the occasion of International Women's Day, which takes place every year on the 8th of March, Eurostat publishes below an infographic on the situation of women in the European Union.


Women in the EU 2019

Did you know?

… that in Latvia there are nearly 118 women per 100 men, the highest ratio in the EU, while there are slightly fewer women than men in Malta, Luxembourg and Sweden (99 women per 100 men)?

... that women in the EU leave the parental home on average at the age of 25, ranging from 20.8 years in Denmark to 31.2 years in Malta?

… that on average in the EU, nearly a third of women work part-time? The share ranges from 2% in Bulgaria to 76% in the Netherlands?

… that women in full-time employment in the EU work on average for 39.3 hours per week? This varies from 37.0 hours in Italy and Denmark to 40.7 hours in Bulgaria?

... that on average 86% of women in the EU use the internet to participate in social networks with the highest percentage found in the Netherlands (97% ) and the lowest in Romania (59%)?

Data refer to 2017 except for internet use (2018).
