International Women's Day

On the occasion of International Women's Day, which takes place every year on the 8th of March, Eurostat publishes below an infographics  on the situation of women in the European Union.

Did you know?

… that women in the Spanish region Comunidad de Madrid have the highest life expectancy in the EU (84.9 years) which is almost 12 years more than women in the Bulgarian region Severozapaden (73.0 years)?

… that in the EU, nearly 80 % of women aged 20-64 with high education were employed, compared with 43 % of women with low education?


… that the Finish region Åland had the highest employment rate for women in the EU (84 %), almost three times higher than the Italian region Campania (30 %)?


… that 18 % of women in the EU were at risk of poverty, ranging from 11% in the Czech Republic to 26 % in Romania?


… that nearly 50 % of deaths of women aged less than 65 years in the EU were due to cancer?
