Eurostat publishes a data visualisation tool and some interesting facts & figures
on tourism activities in the EU.

… that the top 3 destinations for Europeans* travelling outside of the EU (number of trips) were Turkey (13%) , the United States (13%) and Switzerland (10%)? |

… that Europeans spent on average 85 Euros per night in another EU country? This ranged from 46 Euros in Slovakia to 129 Euros in Estonia?

…that 53.3% of Europeans preferred to use air transport for their trips outside of the EU, while they travelled mainly by motor vehicles (76.2 %), or rail (13.3 %) for trips inside the EU?

… that Europeans travelled as tourists mainly in July and August while March and June were the months when most business trips were made?

… that four out of ten Europeans did not take any trip? Half of them reported financial reasons as one of the main causes for not travelling.
