Household expenditure by purpose in the EU, 2018

Eurostat publishes a data visualisation tool as well as some interesting facts & figures on household consumption expenditure in the EU, Member States and EFTA countries.

Did you know?

... that Finland and Denmark had the highest share of household expenditure for housing* (28.5% and 28.1% respectively of total expenditure), while the lowest share was observed in Malta (10.3%)?

… that the highest share of household expenditure for food was observed in Romania (26.4% of total expenditure), while the United Kingdom (6.9%) and Ireland (7.7%) had the lowest share?

… that Portugal recorded the highest share of household expenditure for purchase of vehicles (4.9% of total expenditure), while the lowest was observed in Slovakia (1.5%)?

… that the highest share of household expenditure for communication services was observed in Bulgaria (4.8% of total expenditure), while Luxembourg (1.3%) had the lowest share?

… that Croatia and Malta recorded the highest share of household expenditure for accommodation services (8.9% and 8.0% respectively of total expenditure), while the lowest was observed in Finland (0.5%)?

…that the highest share of household expenditure for restaurants, cafés and bars was found in Ireland (14.4% of total expenditure), while Romania (1.9%) had the lowest share?
