Eurostat publishes a data visualisation tool as well as some interesting facts & figures on household consumption expenditure by purpose in the EU.

... that the largest share of expenditure of European households was for housing*, almost one quarter of total expenditure?

… that the highest share of household expenditure for restaurants, cafés and bars was found in Spain (14.6% of total expenditure), while the lowest was observed in Romania (1.1%)?

… that Estonia recorded the highest share of household expenditure for clothing and footwear (6.8% of total expenditure), while the lowest were found in Czech Republic and Hungary (both 3.4%)?

… that the highest shares of household expenditure for transport services and for communication were found in Greece (6.0% and 4.4% of total expenditure), while the lowest were observed in Luxembourg (0.9% and 1.7%)?
