Short description of the Master programme

The programme educates experts with knowledge of the basics of statistical theory who are also in command of specific methods in a chosen area of application. Students can choose among five modules: Biostatistics, Economic and Business Statistics, Official Statistics, Social Sciences Statistics and Technical Statistics. Compulsory courses cover introduction to statistics, mathematics and probability, inferential statistics, statistical package R, data sources and some generally used statistical methods (multivariate analysis, linear models and computer intensive methods). All other pedagogic activities then enable students to specialise in the desired area of application.

To obtain the EMOS label, students have to complete:

  • the Official Statistics Module with two compulsory courses (Introduction to Official Statistics and Methods and Tools of Official Statistics);
  • four elective courses that cover topics relevant to official statistics;
  • internship of six to eight weeks at the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia or in statistical departments of authorised producers of national statistics as part of the compulsory course on statistical consulting;
  • and the master thesis on a topic with a strong link to official statistics.

The Official Statistics Module is coordinated by the Faculty of Economics. The administrative tasks are carried out by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
