Marianne Thyssen is European Commissioner for Eurostat and Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility.
Commissioner Thyssen holds an MA in Law. From 1998-2008, she was Municipal Councillor in Oud-Heverlee. She was a Member of the European Parliament from 1991 to 2014. During this time she was also Head of the Belgian delegation of the EPP Group and First Vice-President of the EPP Group.
From 2008-2010, Commissioner Thyssen was Party Leader of the Flemish Christian-Democratic party.
In 2014, she joined the European Commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker for the period 2014-2019.
