Short description of the Master programme

The Master programme “Statistics” at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business (SOWI) of the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), taught in English, provides advanced scientific education in statistics and data analysis. According to the official Master Curriculum “Statistics”, a graduate from the Master programme “Statistics” is able to manage, visualize and analyse data in complex applications. Due to a profound knowledge of the theoretical fundaments, she/he can develop new statistical methods and apply these methods to practical problems. Successful completion of the Master programme qualifies for a wide range of professional activity in all areas, where complex data analysis is required, e.g. in agencies of official statistics, academic or non-academic research institutions, banks and insurance companies, manufacturing industry, market and public opinion research companies.

Entrance criteria (note of Bachelor degree, language, other)

Graduates of the Bachelor programme “Statistik” at JKU as well as from the Bachelor programme “Statistik” at the University of Vienna are admitted to this Master programme without any restrictions. Graduates of different programmes at other universities, universities of Applied Sciences, and other recognized national or international post-secondary educational institutions can be admitted to the Master programme “Statistics” if their degree programs are equivalent to the Bachelor programme in Statistics at JKU. Otherwise, admission can be granted on the condition to complete additional courses with up to 40 ECTS points during their Master`s study.
