Data collected with this statistical research are used for statistical and scientific research purposes by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and the Bank of Slovenia. In the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) data are used to monitor the financial position, profit or loss of enterprises and to provide quality and updated data on business performance. They are also used to calculate gross domestic product, to produce comprehensive quarterly institutional sector accounts of Slovenia, to analyse the consistency between non-financial and financial sector accounts and to calculate performance indicators of non-financial enterprises. Data from the balance sheet and profit and loss statement, information on investment and some other business data are collected with the Quarterly Questionnaire on Performance of Enterprises POSL-P/ČL.
Observation units are companies, branches of foreign companies and cooperatives in Slovenia. Covered are all units with more than 49 employees and a sample of units with 49 or fewer employees. The survey includes enterprises that operate in the observed period. Excluded are stagnant enterprises, enterprises in bankruptcy or in liquidation, which do not operate. Excluded are also enterprises engaged in financial and insurance activities (section K) that do not send annual reports to the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Public Legal Records and Related Services (AJPES).
The data collection for the quarterly performance of enterprises by activity includes all companies, branches of foreign companies and cooperatives in Slovenia. Data are published according to all activities of the Standard Classification of Activity - SKD 2008: Agriculture, forestry and fishing (A), Mining and quarrying (B), Manufacturing (C), Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (D), Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (E), Construction (F), Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G), Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Financial and insurance activities, public administration and defence, compulsary social security and education (K+O+P), Real estate activities (L), Professional, scientific and technical activities (M), Administrative and support service activities (N), Human health and social work activities (Q), Arts, entertainment and recreation (R) and Other service activities (S).
