Livestock:The departmnet of agriculture of the ministry of Agriculture collects data on the number of animals for each category on an annual basis by visiting all the animal breeders counting all the animals on the farm in accordance to EU requirements.

Slaughterings: The department of Veterinary services of the ministry of Agriculture is responsible for issuing licences for any new slaughtering houses and its register is updated constantly. Furthermore they collect data on slaughterings from all slaugherhouses of Cyprus for each category of animal which is then given to us.

Slaughtering

The department of Veterinary services of the ministry of Agriculture is responsible for issuing licences for any new slaughtering houses and its register is updated constantly. Furthermore they collect data on slaughterings from all slaugherhouses of Cyprus for each category of animal which is then given to us.

3.2. Frequency of data collection

Statistics on meat production are collected on a monthly basis and relate to the number and carcass weight of animals, bovine, pigs, sheep, goats and poultry slaughtered in slaughterhouses and slaughtering carried out other than in slaughterhouses, sheep and goats, whose meat is fit for human consumption.

The statistics on slaughtering in slaughterhouses and slaughtering carried out other than in slaughterhouses are produced on a monthly and annualy basis. The reference period is the calendar month and the calendar year respectively.

3.3. Data collection

Slaughtering in slaughterhouses: The montly data covers all slaugtherhouses and refers to the number and an averages carcass weight for each category of animal as set by the Regulation - Annex IV. Annual data is the sum of the monthly data.

Slaughtering other than in slaughterhouses: In the case of Cyprus, only a very small number of sheep and goats are slaughtered outside the slaughterhouses and this is estimated.

3.4. Data validation

5. Relevance Top
5.1. Relevance - User Needs

The design of the tables covers to a major extent user needs.

5.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction

No user satisfaction survey has been carried out but to our knowledge the rate of satisfaction among users is quite high, both for the private and government sectors.

5.3. Completeness

Not requested for reference year 2019.

5.3.1. Data completeness - rate

Not requested for reference year 2019.

6. Accuracy and reliability Top

See the items 6.2., 6.3., 6.5. and 6.6.

6.1. Accuracy - overall

The primary objective is the accurate and reliable data. For this purpose, a number of checks are performed. Results are evaluated after the data receival and, if needed, contacts with the relevant Authorities are performed for further investigations.

6.2. Sampling error

Data are not subject to sampling errors since they are based on census.

6.2.1. Sampling error - indicators

See the item 6.2.1.1.

6.2.1.1. Sample design

Sample design to be reported for the process reported in item 3.1.1.

Questionnaire
Random sampling
Multi-stage sample
Clustered sample
Stratified sample
Stratification criteria
Location
Size of unit (animals/production level)
Legal status of unit
Specialisation (farm type/species slaughtered)
Total number of strata

Are some strata surveyed exhaustively? (Exhaustive strata)

% of units in exhaustive strata
% of animals/meat produced
Allocation method
6.3. Non-sampling error

Non-sampling error is not quantified, but is considered to be small. Continuous methodological improvements and survey process improvements are performed. The personnel working at the collection stage is well experienced. To ensure the quality of the time series, comparative analyses are made with the previous years’s results. If inconsistencies are detected, the data are verified.

6.3.1. Coverage error

Full coverage is achieved.

6.3.1.1. Over-coverage - rate

The Vetrinary Services provide the licences for the establishments enganged in slaugtering, so over coverage is not possible.

6.3.1.2. Common units - proportion

Not requested for reference year 2019.

6.3.1.3. Coverage error for each process

Coverage error to be reported for the process reported in item 3.1.1.

Questionnaire:

Geographical coverage
All separate territories and only them 1
Threshold or other conditions
Small farms/slaughterhouses
Farms/slaughterhouses which have just started/ceased
Empty farms/buildings 2
Farms without milk quotas
Emergency slaughtering
Non-agricultural units are excluded (e.g. slaughterhouses or animal traders)
A2: Rate of over coverage (%)
The rate of over coverage is the proportion of units accessible in the frame that do not belong to the target population (i.e. are ‘out of scope’).
Further comments

"Non-agricultural units are excluded eg slaughterhouses or animal traders" is ticked for the livestock data-data is collected by visits to farms.

1 Some countries may cover or exclude some specific territories, either remote or kept out of some studies because of their status, for instance French overseas "departments", neighbour micro-states, Mount Athos, etc.
2 On the date of the survey, some farms or holding can be provisionally empty, for instance for sanitary emptying, whereas they have normally an activity and take part to the frame.
