2.1. Data description

The livestock and meat statistics are collected under Regulation (EC) No 1165/2008 since 2009. They cover slaughtering in slaughterhouses (monthly) and other slaughtering (annual), GIP (gross indigenous production) forecast (semi-annual or quarterly data), and livestock statistics (once or twice a year), including regional statistics (annual). This template lists the questions constituting the quality report required in Article 17 of EU Regulation N°1165/2008 on livestock and meat statistics.

Although the number of pigs in the Republic of Serbia is no longer 3 million or more, SORS continued to provide number of pigs in a semi-annual periodicity by conducting the May/June Survey on the number of pigs as on 23 May, as well as forecast of GIP of pig meat based on these results. This quality report covers the year 2019 and all the quality indicators already reported for year 2016 on the statistical processes used to meet the Regulation (EC) No 1165/2008. The deadline for submission is on 1 July 2020.

Annually

3.3. Data collection

Survey on the number of pigs is conducted from 24 May to 7 June, by interview method, by telephone (CATI method). Implemeted sample size is around 1% of agricultural holdings. IST program (developed in SORS) was applied for data entry and data processing. Data processing is carried out by the end of June, when the data are published for national needs. Data on number of pigs as well as forecast of GIP of pig meat are transmitted to the Eurostat usually before the deadline (before September).

5. Relevance Top
5.1. Relevance - User Needs

Users of these data are MoA and other institutions, journalists, students  and other individuals.

During defining the content of the questionnaire, MoA representatives were consulted and the EU legislation was examined in order to obtain data that would meet national and international  needs. The only problem is that these data are representative and available up to the regional level (NUTS2) and some users need the data for lower territorial levels, which can only be met through structural surveys.

5.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction

General Survey on user satisfaction is conducted every two years and results are available on the web site of SORS. There is no specific survey on user satisfaction related to statistics on livestock number and meat.

5.3. Completeness

Not requested for reference year 2019.

5.3.1. Data completeness - rate

See the items 6.2., 6.3., 6.5. and 6.6.

6.1. Accuracy - overall

Data on statistics on livestock number and meat are collected in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EC) No.1165. CV achieved for the total number of pigs is 3.18% and for sows 3.09%. Accuracy of data can be assessed as good.

For calculating estimates and standard errors Swedish ETOS based on software SAS was used.

Empty farms/buildings 2
Farms without milk quotas
Emergency slaughtering
Non-agricultural units are excluded (e.g. slaughterhouses or animal traders)
A2: Rate of over coverage (%)
The rate of over coverage is the proportion of units accessible in the frame that do not belong to the target population (i.e. are ‘out of scope’).

12.00%

Further comments

Since 1999 SORS does not answer for the specific data for AP Kosovo and Metohija and these data are not included in the coverage for the Republic of Serbia- total.

As Survey on the number of pigs is telephone survey there is no information if agricultural holding ceased to exist, which can have significant impact on coverage error.

1 Some countries may cover or exclude some specific territories, either remote or kept out of some studies because of their status, for instance French overseas "departments", neighbour micro-states, Mount Athos, etc.
2 On the date of the survey, some farms or holding can be provisionally empty, for instance for sanitary emptying, whereas they have normally an activity and take part to the frame.
