3.1. Data description

Statistics on eggs for hatching and farmyard poultry chicks are collected under (market) Regulation (EC) No 617/2008. They are the earliest available information to foresee production of poultry meat and eggs, as the numbers of chicks of various utilities placed in the farms of each Member State, i.e. the number of chicks placed by the hatcheries of this Member State increased by the net import of chicks.

In Slovakia, the survey is conducted by the Research institute of agricultural and food economics (RIAFE). There are two monthly questionnaires named LIAH (MPRV SR) 1-12 and VOH (MPRV SR) 7-12. The questionnaire LIAH is submitted by hatcheries and other reporting units with production of hatching eggs and farmyard poultry chicks. The questionnaire VOH is submitted by reporting units with poultry production and processing of live poultry, eggs for consumption, dried eggs, mayonnaise and cream. Data are collected on-line via electronic questionnaire. The RIAFE provides monthly results of survey to the Statistical Office of Slovak republic (SO SR). SO SR sends data to Eurostat via EDAMIS.
