6. Institutional Mandate Top
6.1. Institutional Mandate - legal acts and other agreements

As a member of the luxemburgish comitee for public statistics, regulated by the statistical law from 10th of July 2011, the "service d'economie rurale" (administration belonging to the ministry of agriculture) has the mandate to collect, process and disseminate statistical information on agriculture.

11.2. Quality management - assessment

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

12. Relevance Top
12.1. Relevance - User Needs

The main national user needs consist in the total egg production and its part of organic production

12.1.1. Data collected for national purposes

The main national user needs consist in the total egg production and its part of organic production

12.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

12.3. Completeness

all information requested in the ESS agreement are collected and delivered to EUROSTAT

13. Accuracy Top
13.1. Accuracy - overall

Data on the number of laying hens is collected by an exhaustive survey with a response rate of 100%. An accuracy issue might occur when a farm declares to have no laying hens at the census date, but there is a possibility that laying hens are present on the farm at another date of the year. By consequence, no egg production is calculated for that farm, although in reality there might be a production.

13.2. Sampling error

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

13.3. Non-sampling error

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

14. Timeliness and punctuality Top
14.1. Timeliness

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

14.2. Punctuality

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

15. Coherence and comparability Top
15.1. Comparability - geographical

not relevant because Luxembourg has no regions

15.2. Comparability - over time

From 2018 onwards, organic egg production is calculated separately with another coefficient than conventional egg production. This might cause a comparability issue with the time series up to 2017.

15.3. Coherence - cross domain

The number of laying hens considered for the calculation of egg production is derived from IACS. The same source is also used in order to obtain the laying hen population in FSS.

15.4. Coherence - internal

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

16. Cost and Burden Top

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

17. Data revision Top
17.1. Data revision - policy

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

17.2. Data revision - practice

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

18. Statistical processing Top
18.1. Source data
  • number of laying hens: administrative source (IACS)
  • number of eggs for human consumption: calculated by using technical coefficients
18.1.1. Description of data collection process

An IACS extraction is used as source for the number of laying hens on 1/4/2018. A short description of the IACS system can be found under this link.

In 2018, 352 farms with laying hens are covered. As no threshold is applied, all the farms with at least one laying hen are included.

At the moment an estimation of the laying hen population on 31/12 is not possible, but work is in progress to change this in future.

18.1.2. Model used as a breakdown based on individual information
Yes
18.1.3. Method used for the model

The number of eggs for human consumption is calculated according to the following model:

  • The number of conventional laying hens is multiplied by the technical coefficient of 300 eggs/laying hen/year
  • The number of organic laying hens is multiplied by the technical coefficient of 270 eggs/laying hen/year
18.2. Frequency of data collection

data is collected annually

18.3. Data collection

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

18.4. Data validation

Not applicable (for the 2018 metadata collection)

18.5. Data compilation

.

18.5.1. Data compilation process - data weighting

not relevant beacause data is exhaustive

18.5.2. Data compilation process
Not relevant
18.6. Adjustment

no adjustment
