3. Statistical presentation Top
3.1. Data description

The egg production statistics contain monthly and annually data on the quantity of class A and B eggs that have been packed.

The statistics are based on data collected quarterly from packing plants. Class A eggs are presented by production method: hen house with battery cages, barn hen house, free range hen house and organic poultry farm.

3.1.1. The main data source of the information
Packing centres
3.2. Classification system

Whole country (NUTS: FI1 + FI2).

Classification of quantity of eggs:

A-class total

A-class hen house with battery cages

A-class barn hen house

A-class free range hen house

A-class organic production

B-class total

A- and B-class total

3.3. Coverage - sector

Data collection cover all approved packing plants. Finnish Food Authority maintain register about approved packing plants.

Defining coverage according to NACE rev 2 isn't possible, because NACE classification don't include activity "egg packing". So there isn't information which operators (companies and farms) are engaged in egg packing.

Statistics don't include on-farm egg usage.

3.4. Statistical concepts and definitions

The egg production statistics contain monthly and annually data on the quantity of class A and B eggs that have been packed for human consumption.

The statistics are based on data collected quarterly from packing plants. Class A eggs are presented by production method: hen house with battery cages, barn- and free range hen house, and organic poultry farm.

3.4.1. Definition of eggs for consumption under EU methodology
Yes
3.4.2. If not, specify the definition used.

Not relevant

3.4.3. Definition of egg producer under EU methodology
Not relevant
3.4.4. If not, specify the definition used

We don't collect data from egg producers

3.4.5. Definition of laying hens under EU methodology
Not relevant
3.4.6. If not, please describe the differences

We don't provide data on number of laying hens.

3.4.7. Definition of ungraded eggs under EU methodology
No
3.4.8. If not, specify the definition used

Statistics don't include on-farm egg usage like direct sales of eggs and use in food management. Quantity of on-farm egg usage was very low, so we quit data collection from farms in order to decrease response burden and cost.

3.4.9. Ungraded Eggs provided separately
No
3.4.10. Additional comments on statistical concepts and definitions

A plant’s egg volume includes both eggs that the plant has produced itself and those purchased directly from farms.
