Data description

The data on prices of agricultural land in Latvia are available from 2011. The data source for the calculations of the average prices the State Land Service (SLS) Real Estate Market Database is used. Average purchase price of agricultural land is payment per one hectare of agricultural land, which includes arable area and/or meadows and pastures, which was purchased from natural or legal persons which sell land for use in agriculture. Excludes non-agricultural transactions (purchase of land for recreation or real estate transactions, building sites, etc.).

The data on rent prices of agricultural land in line with the New Common Target methodology are available from 2011. As a data source the annual Crop sample survey is used.  Average rental price of agricultural land is the price per one hectare of rented agricultural area, regardless of the type of payment (in cash or in kind). Payments in kind are valued at the average prices of the reference year. The rent of agricultural land from relatives is excluded.

Definition of the land price values

Average purchase price of agricultural land is the payment per one hectare of agricultural land, which includes arable area and/or meadows and pastures, which was purchased from natural or legal persons which sell land for use in agriculture. Excludes non-agricultural transactions (purchase of land for recreation or real estate transactions, building sites, etc.).

Average rental price of agricultural land is the price per one hectare of rented agricultural area, regardless of the type of payment (in cash or in kind) and type of rent agreement (oral or written). The land rented from close relatives, as well as the rent of buildings and structures located on the rented land and other costs related to other assets, except agricultural area had to be excluded. Payments in kind are valued at the average prices of the reference year.

The costs of transferring ownership (therefore lawyer's fees, registration taxes and real estate) are excluded from collected selling/purchase price of agricultural land? Yes Not applicable.
