18. Statistical processing Top
18.1. Source data
  Land prices Land rents
Source data

In 2008 it was looked if the individual data on purchases of agricultural land of the bookkeeping holdings in Luxembourg would not be an alternative to the existing data source (administrative data from Administration de l’Enregistrement et des Domaines). A change of the data source was eased by the fact that the Service d’Economie Rurale, which is in charge of agricultural production statistics and price statistics, is also in charge of the European farm accountancy data network (FADN).
It has to be underlined that in 2007, more or less 800 holdings among the 1.784 “commercial” farms registered in Luxembourg, i.e. more than 40% of the “commercial” farms, are book-keeping holdings participating in FADN. So FADN data have a good representativity for the sector of professional farming.

The accountancy data base could be used back to 2003. For the years 2003 to 2006, only part of the data base was used, whereas from 2007 onwards, the whole data base can be used.

The median price per ha, the weighted average price per ha (weighted by area) and the average price per ha were calculated.

The accountancy data on land price were found to be of better quality than the administrative data and it was decided to keep them for agricultural land price statistics. The median price per ha was kept as price to be transmitted to EUROSTAT, mainly because it has the lowest year-to-year variation. However, it has to be underlined that FADN is not an exhaustive data base for agricultural land prices as only the land purchased by active farmers, and not all land purchases, are taken into consideration.

18.4. Data validation
  Land prices Land rents
Data validation

In addition to the standard FADN data validation, data is checked manually for outliers in order to eliminate land purchases that are not intended for agricultural use.

18.5. Data compilation
  Land prices Land rents
Data compilation process

A median price per ha is calculated out of the list of all land purchases for agricultural purposes

An average land rents price is calculated according to the FADN rules
