3.1. Data description

Capacity:
The tourism statistics Liechtenstein contains the number of establishments, bedrooms and bed places for hotels and similar accommodation and the number of establishments and bed places for holiday and other short-stay accommodation and camping grounds.
In  January  2012  a  new  data  collection  method  was  established.  Since  January  2012  tourist accommodation establishments have to enter guest data in an electronic system (online). Some of the accommodation establishments have a gateway from their booking software to the electronic system to deliver the data.

Since 2014 data on bedrooms and bed places are entered monthly into the electronic system by hotels and similar accommodation.   
In the year 2012 there was a methodological break. As recommended by Eurostat long term letting should not be considered. Since 2012 long term letting for holiday homes and camping sites is not considered.

Occupancy:
The tourism statistics Liechtenstein contains the number of guest arrivals and spent nights in hotels and
similar accommodation, in holiday and other short-stay accommodation and on camping grounds. It contains also the net occupancy rate of bed places and the net occupancy rate of bedrooms for hotels and similar accommodation.

3.2. Classification system

For data transmission to Eurostat NACE and NUTS0 is used. In national publications establishments
are classified as 01 Hotel and private rooms (guest house), 02 Holiday dwelling, 03 Youth hostel, 04 Mass accomodation, 05 Camping site. In national publications NUTS0 and another national breakdown (5 Regions) are used.

Because in Liechtenstein there exist not so many accommodation establishments, data can not be published on LAU2 level for reasons of data protection. Therefore, for Liechtenstein data is released for five regions. For the release of data, there have to be at least 3 establishments. Otherwise, establishments have to agree to the release.

In 2022 the deviation for spent nights between the first anual data and the provisional monthly data was 0.44%. The provisional monthly data were 862 spent nights smaller than the final data. For August 2022 the provisinal monthly data were 106 spent nights smaler than the final data (-0.41%).

For reasons of changes of the spent nights changes of the net occupany rate of bed places are possible.
