Capacity: 

Capacity data on collective and non-profit accommodation establishments by types and by categories (number of units, bedrooms and bed-places) and by statistical and tourism regions, number of tourist arrivals and tourism nights by international and domestic tourist arrivals, number of international tourist arrivals and international tourism nights by country.

Occupancy: 

  • Number of tourist arrivals and tourism nights by international and domestic tourist arrivals.
  • Number of international tourist arrivals and international tourism nights by country.
  • Room and bed occupancy rates of hotels by categories, by planning-statistical regions.
  • Average room rates of occupied hotel rooms by planning-statistical regions.

Occupied room is the one put at the guests' disposal. In the case of accommodation establishments of mixed operation the occupied room is the room let as public accommodation only. Occupied bed-place is the one put at the guests' disposal.

 

3.2. Classification system

Regulation No. 239/2009 (20 October) on the condition of accommodation services.

Decree No. 173/2003 (28 October) on the condition of collective accommodation establishments and non-profit accommodation.

Accommodation establishments are classified by the TEÁOR’08 (Hungarian version of NACE Rev.2).

 -55.1. Hotels and similar establishments: Hotels total, Hotels 5*, Hotels 4*, Hotels 3*, Hotels 2*, Hotels 1*, Hotels without category, Spa Hotels, Boarding houses

 -55.2 and 55.3. Others: Bungalow complex, Community hostels, Non-profit accommodation establishments, Camping sites. Small capacity (below 10 bed) private accommodation is not in the scope.

The regional classification used is the NUTS classification: NUTS 1 and NUTS 2 and NUTS 3.

The countries classification used is ISO 3166 International standard for countries codes.

  • The figures are preliminary, finalizing at the next year May.
  • Overcoverage rate is 1.0%.
  • Unit non-response rate is 9.4%
  • Item non-response rate is 3.4 at turnover variable.
  • Response rate is under control on the basis of legal regulations.
  • Data and metadata are easily accessible to users at our website.
  • Survey on accommodation statistics is not a sample survey, so it does not contain sampling error.
  • Relevance for user needs, comparability and coherence are very good.

Although the response rate is fairly good the non-response is the main source of non-sampling errors. There are some enterprises which send late data, but their questionnaires can be taken into consideration over the revisions. Imputation procedure is applied during data processing from 2012 until 2020 in order to substitute missing data.

Coherence between annual and monthly data: In 2021 Annual final and monthly preliminary data difference is below 1%. Accommodation statistics transmit its figures quarterly to National Accounts GDP calculation. The quarterly figures are adjusted at the time of final data are prepared.

Data are controlled and automatic error messages are produced by Elektra online data collection system. There are 3 levels of the error detection. Error lists are forwarded via Elektra to data supplier for fixing.

Capacity and capacity utilization figures are calculated for accommodation establishments by type of locality and by size classes. Employment and accommodation fee data with other revenues are also calculated. A documented imputation procedure (previous year, donor method) is applied during data processing from 2012 until 2020 in order to substitute missing data.
