According to article 16 of the national statistics law of 10 July 2011, "...STATEC guarantees the non-disclosure of confidential information when the statistical results are disseminated..." In addition, the same article says that "...The data used to produce the statistics is deemed confidential when it allows an individual or legal entity to be directly or indirectly identified or comprises a risk of disclosure of individual information. To determine whether an individual or legal entity is identifiable,account shall be taken of all relevant means that might reasonably be used by a third party to identify such individual or legal entity. However, data which is taken from sources accessible to the public and which remains accessible according to legislation is not considered confidential. The same applies when express authorisation from the provider of statistical information is given..."

Overall data quality is very good. The raw data sources are the establishments internet sites, marketing publications of the National Board of Tourism as well as specific surveys carried out by Statec on opening periods, number of rooms and bed places, etc. In addition, many personal contacts assure that data is accurate. Census assures a good accuracy of data. 90% of data is transmitted electronically by web-based accommodation cards that have to be filled-in by the establishments. Online explanation texts are available in four languages. If there is a suspicion that data is missing or erroneous, the establishments are contacted by letter, email or phone in order to provide them with some clarifications or supplementary information.
