18. Statistical processing Top
18.1. Source data

Population data is based on the final data of the Population census 2022. The annual data is calculated using the following sources:
The statistics of vital events (births and deaths), which is based on the direct data collection of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and is compulsory on the basis of Section 30 of Act CLV of 2016 On Statistics The source of data are civil registrars and health institutions.
The international migration statistics is based on the registers of the National Directorate-general for AliensPolicing, and the Register of personal data and addresses of the Ministry of Interior, Deputy State Secretariat for Registers’Management, and the register of the National Health Insurance Fund.

18.2. Frequency of data collection

Collection of vital events data is continuous, input data is connected to the event. Migration datasets are received from data owners twice per year.

18.3. Data collection

Vital statistics are based on the direct data collection of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. On the basis of Act CLVof 2016 on Statistics, input data related to vital events is received from registrars and/or health-care institutions.
Migration data are transferred twice a year from the different administrative data sources: Registers of personal data and addresses, register of the National Directorate-general for Aliens Policing , register of the National Helath Insurance Fund.

18.4. Data validation

During data production quality and consistency checks (dual record check) are carried out in order to handle e.g. logical contradictions and errors in records.

18.5. Data compilation

Appropriate births and deaths statistics are collected by civil registrars and health institutions and than compiled by theStatistical Office. Coding, editing and imputation is carried out on these datasets and than the final, verified data areloaded into the internal Demographic database.
In case of migration data, data are transmitted from different administrative organizations i.e. Register of personal data and addresses, National Directorate-general for Aliens Policing, National Health Insurance Fund. The different datasets are linked by HCSO, cleaned from duplications, checked, than estimations are made on migration flows and stocks data. The final, validated data set is loaded into the internal Demographic database. The statistical outputs are produced using Demographic database.

18.6. Adjustment

The reason for the statistical adjustment is that population and vital statistics data are compiled from several separate datasources (i.e. civil registrars, health institutions, HCSO statistical data collection on vital events, Register of personal data and addresses,National Directorate-general for Aliens Policing, National Health Insurance Fund), which are not fully harmonized.
