2.1. Data description

Data on placing of pesticides on the market have been collected in the Czech Republic since 2004.
The Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture (hereinafter referred to as CISTA) is responsible for data collection and processing.
CISTA is the administrative phytosanitary care authority with competence for the Czech Republic, established by Act No 147/2002 of the Czech Republic Collection of Laws (hereinafter referred as Coll.), on phytosanitary care and on amendments to certain related laws, as amended.
CISTA is subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic.

2.2. Classification system

Classification system is based on the list of active substances in accordance with the Annex III of the Regulation (EC) No 1185/2009 concerning statistics on pesticides.

All sales of pesticides.

2.4. Statistical concepts and definitions

In accordance with the Regulation (EC) No 1185/2009 concerning statistics on pesticides, the statistics shall apply to the annual amounts of pesticides placed on the market in accordance with Annex I and the quantity of each active substance contained in the pesticides shall be compiled according to the list in Annex III.

This data collection comprises pesticide sales data in the entire territory of the country.

3. Statistical processing Top

CISTA is responsible for data collection and processing.
Article 60, paragraph 1, subparagraph a) of the Act No 326/2004 Coll., on phytosanitary care and on amendments to certain related laws, as amended, states that:
Entrepreneurs who are placing (plant protection) products or other products on the market, or entrepreneurs who store such products within the territory of the Czech Republic for the purpose of their export to third countries, are obliged to report the name and amount according to particular batch numbers for the (plant protection) product or other product that was transported from another EU member country or imported from a third country to the CISTA always within three days since its transport to the territory of the Czech Republic.

Data collection:
- paper questionnaires filled in by respondents
- on-line questionnaires; respondents record their data directly to the system maintained by CISTA
Data recorded (compulsory): product name, package type, batch number, amount and measuring unit.
Data validation: checks whether only authorised products are entered and correct measurement units used; comparison with values for previous years.
Data are collected at a product level. The amount of products is converted into amount of active substances automatically by CISTA.
The list of authorised products is updated regularly.

The figures are presented by CISTA. The methodology for the collection of sales data and the list of active substances is regularly revised and harmonised.

Administrative data source is used for the purpose of statistics on placing of pesticides on the market.
The source covers all units legally obliged to report data on all products placed on the market (pursuant to Act No 326/2004 Coll., on phytosanitary care and on amendments to certain related laws, as amended).
The source covers all variables required by Regulation (EC) No 1185/2009 concerning statistics on pesticides, as amended.

The information on the amount of withdrawn active substances (no longer authorized or withdrawn for any other reason) is not collected; therefore, sales pesticide statistics do not include withdrawn active substances.
