Tomorrow, Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, and Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, will participate in the event 'Good prospects for all young people'. The hybrid event will shed light on how the reinforced Youth Guarantee has supported young people so far, as well as promote the start of the new initiative ALMA (Aim, Learn, Master, Achieve).

Announced by Commission President Ursula von der Leyenin her State of the Union address, ALMA will offer young people who are particularly disadvantaged or vulnerable a supervised work experience abroad, coupled with intensive, tailor-made training before and after, with the aim of getting a job or returning to studies. As President von der Leyen said: 'Europe needs all of its youth. We must step up our support to those who fall into the gaps – those not in any kind of employment, education or training. They deserve an experience like Erasmus. To gain skills, to create bonds and help forge their own European identity.'

Participants of tomorrow’s event include young people from all over Europe who have benefitted from similar programmes, government representatives including the Czech Deputy-Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka, representing the incoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, and representatives of social partners and public employment services. They will discuss the challenges and opportunities related to youth employment and skills development. In addition, Member States are expected to indicate their commitment to the new ALMA initiative as part of their operational programmes under the European Social Fund Plus.

The event is part of the European Year of Youth and takes place from 14:30 to 17:30 CET and can be followed via a livestream. The programme is available via a dedicated download page..
