This project aims to maximise the credibility, legitimacy and effectiveness of the Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPA) being developed by Laos and Vietnam. Based on the experience of past forest sector reforms in these two countries, and the experience to date of Vietnam’s VPA negotiations, WWF has identified a particular need for capacity building and organisational support for weaker VPA stakeholder groups, in particular forest-dependent communities, civil society organisations (such as NGOs in Vietnam and non-profit associations in Laos), and small and medium forest enterprises.
Bridging the Gap
The overall objective of the intervention is to reduce poverty and improve the living standards of the rural population in the northern districts of Corozal and Orange Walk. This will be achieved specifically by facilitating commercial agriculture-based enterprises so as to improve income and employment by strengthening value chains and productivity of onion, honey and sheep production.

DEVCO Directorate for Latin America and Caribbean and the EEAS Americas Department have jointly met the Ambassadors of the Latin America countries to Brussels to present the MIP 2014-2020.
