Today, during the official visit of the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica to Greenland a financing agreement of €31.6 million was signed to support the education sector. This programme highlights the commitment of the European Union to supporting the sustainable development of Greenland, in particular by strengthening its education and vocational training.

Signing of Joint Declaration on relations between the European Union, on the one hand, and the Government of Greenland and the Government of Denmark, on the other” by the President of the Commission, the Prime Minister of Denmark and the Greenland Premier on 19th March 2015.
The Joint Declaration is a legally and financially non-binding document which confirms the long lasting links between the EU and Greenland and reiterates the geostrategic importance of Greenland to the EU.
The Programming Document defines the cooperation priorities for the period 2014-2020.  The education, vocational training and post-elementary school system have been chosen as the concentration sector for the cooperation between Union and Greenland for the period 2014-2020.
A Financing Agreement covering the 2015 European Union support to the Greenland education programme was signed today in Brussels by the Prime Minister of Greenland, Kim Kielsen and Marcus Cornaro, Deputy-Director General for International Cooperation and Development, European Commission.
