SOCIEUX - Social Protection European Union Expertise in Development Cooperation - is a technical assistance facility which has been set up by the European Commission's Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (EuropeAid) in order to support the efforts of partner countries to better design and manage their social protection systems.
This study was jointly commissioned by the African Development Bank and the European Commission. The report comprises a synthesis based on a literature review and case studies of sector approaches in the water sector in seven countries: Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Jordan, Lesotho, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda.
The EU gives value to a dynamic, pluralistic and competent civil society and recognizes the importance of constructive relations between states and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). Therefore the emphasis of the EU policy will be on CSOs' engagement to build stronger democratic processes and accountability systems and to achieve better development outcomes. (COM(2012) 0492)
