Greater protection and self-employment to reinforce women's rights

Greater protection and self-employment to reinforce women's rights

This project will promote job-creation and the socio-economic empowerment of rural women in line with the 'Action Strategy for further development of Uzbekistan' which was adopted in 2017. It will therefore strengthen women's role on the socio-political scene.

The outcome of the project will contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) on gender equality. It will focus on the following targets: to 'eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in the public and private spheres (SDG5.2)' and to 'facilitate the adoption of policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality (SDG5.9)'.

Activities will be designed with an integrated approach. They will provide a voice to women's organisations that promote gender equality, empower women who are survivors or who are at risk of Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) and protect the physical and psychological integrity of women and girls.

Overall objective: To strengthen the role of women civil society organisations (CSOs) in promoting human rights, gender equality and good governance in Uzbekistan.

Specific objective: To strengthen the capacity of civil society to prevent domestic violence (DV) through better advocacy and to protect the economic and social rights of women.
