Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights unite to publish a guide to celebrate 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." Article 1, Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today, 10 December 2018, marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration - a landmark document which sets the foundations for a world in which all individuals are able to live in dignity, free from fear or want. 70 years on, efforts to promote and protect human rights is as urgent as ever, as conflict, poverty, discrimination and other violations continue to deny millions around the world their basic rights.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary, Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development has partnered with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to produce "Making a Difference", a user-friendly tool that explains the basic tenets of human rights in an easy-to-understand and accessible format. It provides a concise explanation of human rights and the international human rights framework and mechanisms. As such, it is an indispensable tool for all practitioners of the rights-based approach to development.
The European Commission also ran a campaign presenting the 30 Articles of the Declaration through animations:
