Towards a closer partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean

Towards a closer partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean

Today, the European Union has issued a policy document setting out its vision for deepening its relationship with partner countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The EU-LAC Communication will serve as a blueprint for closer ties between our two regions – turning that vision into reality.

We intend to build further on our already fruitful partnership around the themes of democracy, resilience, prosperity and global governance – all this underpinned by our work to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

For our cooperation to be a success, we need to establish flexible partnerships. So, with countries with higher income levels that are in transition to sustainable development, we will support efforts to tackle remaining development challenges, while maximising opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. At the same time, we will consolidate development cooperation with less developed countries, making sure that no-one is left behind. And we will harness further the benefits that triangular cooperation can bring.
