On 7-8 March, the Seminar on Women's economic empowerment will bring together representatives of civil society organisations, international organisation and gender experts from the EU and the Latina America and Caribbean region with the aim of creating a space for reflection and discussion on women economic empowerment and participation in the economy and paid labour markets.
The seminar has the following objectives:
- To provide a bi-regional space for the exchange of information and experiences between experts from the EU and CELAC on women´s economic empowerment and participation in the labour market;
- To promote discussion and networking among the participating experts from both regions, including from civil society organisations and private sectors, to analyse the main obstacles to gender equality in the economy;
- To make recommendations on follow-up activities, including proposals for actions that could be included in bi-regional cooperation actions
The seminar has been organized in application of Chapter 7 of the EU-CELAC Action Plan which identifies the economic empowerment of women and their participation in the world of work as one of the priorities for gender equality. Today's event can be considered as a clear and concrete example of the EU commitment to gender equality through the development cooperation and the external relations actions.
