The 2014 West African Ebola crisis shocked the world. Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and the international community were not prepared. What were the lessons learned? How did West African institutions, WHO and the EU respond? 5 years later, what has changed with regards to recent outbreaks? What are the challenges for health security in West Africa?

EU support to the Regional Centre for Disease Surveillance and Control in the ECOWAS zone has been launched in January 2019. What can be expected and what difference will it make?
