Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA), a national umbrella organisation of renewable energy actors in Tanzania has won the award of 2018 Best Small Association Conference given by the Association of Association Executives with Headquarters in the United Kingdom. The award was announced on 30th October, 2018 in South Africa. Under this competition, TAREA entered the Tanzania Renewable Energy Day 2017 held in Kigoma, to which the EU Delegation contributed financially to make this event a success. The event was paramount in promoting and creating awareness on renewable energy among the general public.
According to the Association of Association Executives website, the judges said: “A very clear goal for this event, comprising of seminars, workshops, exhibitions and site visits, was to educate and encourage the local population to adopt and use renewable energy technologies in their households. The free admission, education regarding financing opportunities and the mix of gov representatives & local population makes this a common effort to benefit everyone living in the area.”
Awards have been published on the Association of Association Executives website.
The event brought together a wide range of actors including government institutions, private companies, NGOs/CSOs, research institutions, universities, individual scientists/engineers and the general public.
Renewable energy is one of EU's priority areas of development cooperation in Tanzania in the framework of the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).
