Africa-Europe Alliance: The Digital Economy Task Force seeks feedback

As part of President Juncker’s New Africa-Europe Alliance, a dedicated EU-Africa Digital Economy Task Force was set up by EU Vice President Andrus Ansip, EU Commissioners Mariya Gabriel and Neven Mimica and African Union Commissioner Amani Abou-Zeid.

The Task Force brought together European and African political and business leaders to identify policies and projects that will support the African Digital economy.

Under the co-chairmanship of Ghana's Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and the Vice-President of the African Development Bank, Pierre Guislain, the Task force has now finalised the first draft of its report, containing proposals to make a success of the African Digital Economy.

Following meetings in Vienna and Kigali, the task force now invites feedback on the draft report.

The draft report includes policy recommendations and concrete actions that can be taken forward by individual African countries and regional organisations, the European Union, the African Union, international organisations, financing institutions, donors and other stakeholders. The actions, that can represent the basis for future project formulation, correspond to four objectives aligned with those identified at the sixth EU-Africa Business Forum in Abidjan in November 2017, namely:

  1. Accelerating the achievement of universal access to affordable broadband.
  2. Guaranteeing essential skills for all, in education and Vocational Education and Training (VET), to enable citizens to thrive in the digital age.
  3. Improving the business environment and facilitating access to finance and business support services to boost digitally enabled entrepreneurship.
  4. Accelerating the adoption of eServices and the further development of the digital economy towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The call for feedback is open until 3rd June. To make your voice heard:
