Around 2.3% (1.3 million) of Myanmar’s population are estimated to have some form of intellectual or physical disability, according to a national survey conducted in 2010. Some independent estimates, though, put the figure at between 10-15%. Provision of special education and care services to children with disabilities is limited. Until the establishment of the charitable organisation, the Eden Centre for Disabled Children, in Yangon in 2000.
