Civil society

The overall objective is to contribute to the effective implementation of the EU's development cooperation within the Pacific ACP region in in line with the Pacific Leaders' vision for a region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity so that all Pacific people can lead free, healthy and productive lives.
Context: Promotion of rule of law and State accountability Objectives: The project aimed to foster greater accountability of public institutions and leaders to citizens in line with the Constitution of Lesotho. Results: 
In Lesotho the structures for governance of public institutions exist but they do not have the capacity and environment to exercise their functions fully. Citizens, especially in rural areas, find it difficult to know what their rights are and where to voice their needs. The population is neither sufficiently informed nor strategically organised to exercise its civic rights. The constitution entrenches the right of citizens to participate in public affairs but is basically only applied at times of elections.
Today the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, closed the 7th global meeting of the Policy Forum on Development (PFD) in Brussels.

The objectives pursued by the programme are to assist Palau towards achieving a more eficient and sustainable energy sector and, in particular, to increase the energy efficiency of the health centres and reduce transmission and distribution losses in the grid, to enhance the capacity of the office of the National Authorising Officer, to improve Public Finance Management systems in Palau, and to increse awareness of energy efficiency in communities.
The project promotes economic growth and opportunities for individuals in the informal sector in Brong Ahafo and Greater Accra regions in Ghana. Specific Objectives: To collaborate with Local Authorities to promote environmentally sustainable livelihoods and decent work for women, women groups and youth dependent on informal economies To improve transparency, accountability and revenue mobilisation of Local Authorities.
The Multi-annual Action Programme for the Thematic Programme 'Civil Society Organisations' (CSOs) for the period 2018-2020 was adopted on the 7 August 2018. The total budget for the period amounts to €675 334 499.
The European Commission has developed Framework Partnership Agreements with civil society organisations and associations of local authorities across Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and Europe. These partnerships cover a wide array of fields of intervention: anti-corruption, gender, accountability, human rights, political and social inclusion or economic empowerment, decentralisation, and good and inclusive local governance, decentralised cooperation.
In the framework of the EIDHR Calls for Proposals that are planned in 2018, the European Commission organised two informal sessions, which took place on Thursday May 24 in Brussels. The sessions were attended by over 30 civil society organisations with the aim of exchanging ideas and providing feedback on the upcoming Calls. The meeting was organised in three parts:
