DCI - Food Security

PROACT activities aim to reduce food insecurity in a timely manner, helping the most vulnerable groups recover from crises and and build long-term food and nutrition security (FNS).
Through the Pro-resilience Action(PROACT), the EU is engaged in reducing food insecurity in a timely manner, helping the most vulnerable groups recover from crises and facilitating the phasing out of humanitarian assistance and build long-term food and nutrition security (FNS). ProACT intervention is developed around two main objectives:
The programme aims to strengthen the capacities of farmers’ to influence policies and programmes and to provide them with economic services that facilitate their integration in value chains.
The EU provides support to improve the livelihoods and food security of rural producers in Africa by helping farmers' organisations (FOs) reinforce their role in better shaping policies for agriculture and sustainable development. This is done at national, regional and continental level. Such support is divided in two main programmes: Support to Farmers' Organisations in Africa Programme (SFOAP) –  and Farmers Fighting Poverty – Food Security Initiatives of Farmers’ Organisations in a Regional Perspective (Africa) (FFP/AFRICA). The entire action is made up of 4 main components:
Through INFORMED, the EU and FAO are helping governments to better withstand food crises and to fight hunger, malnutrition and improve resilience in vulnerable areas.
The INFORMED programme, through assistance from FAO, aims to build the technical and institutional capacities of national and regional institutions to guarantee regular, timely information as well as evidence-based analysis regarding the food security, nutrition and resilience situation in prone-crisis countries. 
FIRST programme brings governments, regional organisations and donors together to develop effective policies in the fight against food insecurity and malnutrition and to promote resilience.
The INFORMED programme, through assistance from FAO, aims to support national and regional institutions to guarantee regular, timely information as well as evidence-based analysis regarding the food security, nutrition and resilience situation (FN&S) in prone-crisis countries. The support to improve analysis, information sharing and monitoring of FN&S factors should ensure that diverse actors involved are better prepared to withstand potential food crises and thus increase the resilience of vulnerable populations, reducing their food insecurity and malnutrition.
