Nested Portlets
Our portal helped a jobseeker find work in just two weeks! What are you waiting for?
When Arnaud Borens from Belgium published his CV on the EURES portal he had no idea that just two weeks later he’d have hooked his ideal job in Lisbon. While this is a very fast turnaround, thousands have found work through the activities of EURES and the portal is a great place to start.
‘EURES’ service was make or break for me. It opened up a lot of doors and has given me the opportunity to make the big jump in my working life – finding my first contract abroad,’ says Arnaud.
At 24, Arnaud has just graduated with a BA in Business Administration from ICHEC in Brussels. A bilingual French and German speaker, he learned English throughout his education, ‘I am sure that having several languages did help me in my job hunting. I published my CV in French, German and English,’ he says.
The process, once he had published his CV, was relatively painless! He was contacted by a recruiter who identified some job vacancies for him to consider. ‘I picked three and had interviews with them the following week, one over the phone and two over Skype.’
From that came two job offers. ‘I chose the position of Social Media Reporting Analyst in Lisbon, and went out at the start of January,’ says Arnaud, who now works for Teleperformance.
‘I love my work,’ he says, ‘I have to analyse the reaction of customers regarding brands, services or products and make recommendations in a report that will visualise the impact the brand has in various media.’
What is on the horizon for Arnaud? He wants to add Portuguese to his list of languages and manage more projects. ‘Even if the working language is English, for questions of integration it is easier when I can understand a bit of the national language.’
He is looking forward to going to language classes provided by the company and in the meantime enjoys speaking to his colleagues, ‘The trick is to stick your neck out and trust people to meet you half way when you are learning a new language’
So, if you are recently qualified and looking for a job, or if you are in work and fancy a change, then follow the steps to creating your EURES CV and publishing it on the portal. You can also consult your nearest EURES Adviser for suggestions on how to boost your chances and other useful information.
‘I would tell anyone looking for a new job to register with EURES, pick their interests carefully and publish their resume in several languages, if possible, to get noticed more,’ says Arnaud.
There are other tools EURES offers so take a look at the EURES tutorial or make the most of our Help and Support page to find out how we can help you get to where you want to be!
