Cross-border job fair in Bohemia and Saxony attracts the crowds
The historical lands of Bohemia and Saxony recently hosted their second transnational job fair.
Nowadays the lands fall in the border region between the Czech Republic and Germany and it was the Czech Republic that recently hosted the Transnational Job Fair. Held in Prague in late September, this is the second year that the fair has taken place, and it continues to grow in popularity.
Organised in cooperation between EURES Czech and EURES-TriRegio, the event was attended by 350 visitors and 20 employers across many sectors, including the hotels and catering sector, mechanical engineering, health care, and construction. EURES-TriRegio is a EURES cross border partnership between the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany consisting of public employment services, trade unions and employers’ organisations and covers parts of Saxony, Bohemia and Lower Silesia. Its aim is to maintain the existing employment and social standards of the participating countries, while at the same time promoting the development of a common employment market.
Traineeships and internships were offered alongside full-time jobs in the Saxony border region and other states, and the level of interest among the many jobseekers interested in working in that region, and abroad was encouraging. “We welcomed 350 visitors who were interested in a job or an education in Germany,” says EURES Czech Republic Adviser, Leona Bláhová.
Advice and support
EURES Advisers were on hand to offer advice regarding living and working conditions in other regions, as well as advice on how to succeed in interviews and how to produce an eye-catching CV.
Last year’s fair directly resulted in the awarding of about 65 job contracts. Leona and the EURES team hoped to improve on that figure this time around, and will receive the concrete results shortly.
“The employers were very satisfied in terms of qualifications and language skills of the candidates. The event was described by employers and applicants to be successful, so we will also continue next year,” concludes Leona.
