‘One-stop-shop’ job fair attracts thousands of job seekers
More than 5 000 job seekers attended the Employment and Advice Fair in Galway on 29 and 30 Juneto find jobs, get advice on training and education, and improve their CVs.
“The event was organised to assist jobseekers and job changers and those looking for advice on training, education and social welfare issues,” explains Bernadetta Gaspari-McGuirk, Executive Officer for EURES in Ireland. “It had a one-stop-shop concept comprising of employers, training and advice providers, information agencies and a CV presentation clinic. It addressed both the needs of the jobseeker and the exhibitor.”
Many exhibitors attended the Employment and Advice Fair ready to help jobseekers. ”It was attended by EURES Advisers from 16 countries taking part in EURES recruiting on behalf of their country, 12 local employers, two Norwegian employers, and 30 training and education/advice/information agencies,” Bernadetta describes. “There was also a CV Clinic for CV appraisal and personalised job-seeking advice.”
“The event was a great success given that over 5 000 clients visited the job fair over the two days,” says Bernadetta. “Both clients attending and exhibitors participating expressed satisfaction to a very high standard.”
Employers had more than 300 jobs on offer at the event and contracts were offered to many jobseekers who attended.
“All local employers expressed satisfaction at the level of clients they met and indicated that they would be offering contracts. The Norwegian employers were very impressed with the quality of engineers they met and also indicated that they would be offering contracts,” Bernadetta explains. Other European countries which were represented by EURES Advisers were impressed with the quality of trade people they met and following interviews with these people, indicate that they too would be offering contracts.
