Ever realised you had just been in the right place at the right time? A visit to a European Job Days (EJD) event in Mondorf les Bains, Luxembourg – really paid off for jobseeker Fernandes Miguel, who was offered a position at Adecco – on the spot.
“I presented my CV and answered a few questions about my work experience and language skills. Adecco seemed very positive as they needed someone to take part in organising concerts. I wasn’t offered a contract to sign there and then but we agreed verbally to have a meeting to sort out the details the following week. I’ve been searching for a job for almost three months and hopefully this search will now be over,” says Fernandes Miguel, from Portugal.
Fernandes was just one of 2 000 jobseekers who visited the EJD in the town of Mondorf les Bains, situated in south-eastern Luxembourg conveniently situated within commuter distance to Belgium, Germany, France and the city of Luxembourg. The EJD was organised by EURES in Luxembourg and France in cooperation with Adecco. The organising team had specifically invited companies from the hotel and hospitality sectors. However, as an additional feature, employers from all sectors were welcome to recruit for summer jobs.
“EURES plays a very important role for the labour market in Luxembourg. Since we encourage European mobility and have a very open labour market, there’s a need for actors such as EURES to help jobseekers and employers to take advantage of cross-border mobility,” says Dr Nicolas Schmit, Luxembourg’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Immigration, who also visited the EJD.
Among the 25 companies present at the fair, Adecco, Sodexo, and CD Publicité have benefited from a long-term relationship with EURES. Together, these three companies alone were hoping to recruit around 20 employees at the EJD.
So how did things turned out for Fernandes Miguel? The Portuguese jobseeker later had a successful meeting with Adecco and he was one of three people who got a job with the company at this particular EJD event.
