EURES: a decade of recruiting staff to Austrian ski resort
For the Stubai Glacier, Austria’s largest glacial skiing area, the start of the new ski season brings with it a fresh batch of recruits to staff the busy resort.
The demand for workers to fill vacancies in the ski resorts far outstrips supply in Austria and so European cooperation to help with recruitment is vital. For almost a decade, the Stubai Glacier in the Austrian Tyrol region has been relying on the services of EURES Finland to help recruit staff for its restaurants and bars in the popular resort.
Every ski season the company employs around five to seven people who are recommended to them by EURES Finland. The kinds of jobs on offer are in the catering sector and include bar staff, waiters, chefs and cleaners.
So how did Manfred Unterkirchner, Catering Director at the resort, find out about EURES? “I first approached the public employment service in Austria and was referred to EURES Finland. The contact with them is particularly good,” he says.
Over the 10 years the ongoing cooperation with EURES Finland has ensured the recruitment process runs smoothly. “Every year around August we communicate our requirements to the PES and EURES. Mari Turunen, EURES Adviser in Finland, advertises our vacancies locally. Mari conducts a preliminary sort of applicants and workers are selected in close cooperation with EURES based on their CVs,”
It is a collaboration that is set to continue for many years to come. “Using the services of both the public employment servcie and EURES Finland is very advantageous and helps us fill the numerous vacancies we have every season,” asserts Manfred.
