Successful European career day in Ancona
Europe is waiting for you. That was the message conveyed to students, young graduates, researchers and professors at the Università Politecnica delle Marche in Ancona, Italy, when EURES – together with the University, the Centro Alti Studi Europei, and the European Commission’s representation in Italy – organised an European careers day in the area.
“It was the first time we had organised an event like this in the region of Ancona and it was a great success. We had over 1 000 visitors, which was many more than we expected and we couldn’t finish the event on time because the stands still had long queues,” says Graziella Massi, EURES Adviser in Ancona and one of those responsible for organising the career day.
Given the profiles of the visitors attending the career day, the event focused on medicine, engineering, information technology (IT) and finance. EURES Advisers from Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom all participated. During the day advisers took turns giving presentations on living and working in their respective countries. Each adviser also had a dedicated booth where they met students and graduates, who then had the opportunity to ask specific questions about their career paths.
One of the main attractions during the day was that Strathmore/Southend Care, a residential and nursing home for the elderly in Essex, United Kingdom, introduced their internship opportunities and presented job offers in the nursing field aimed at students and young graduates. ”I met at least four newly graduated nurses that I would like to employ for our nursing homes. Several others promised to notify me when they have graduated,” says Christine Tyrrell, operations manager at Strathmore/Southend Care.
“Everyone involved was overwhelmed by the response from the students and we are very likely to organise a similar event next year,” concludes Graziella.
