EURES establishes strong relationship with Belgian consulting company
The experience of QSpin, a consulting company with offices in Louvain-La-Neuve and Ghent, Belgium, is a good example of how EURES can help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) meet their recruitment needs.
QSpin is an engineering and consulting company that approached EURES to help them in their search for employees. Human Resources Manager, Dr Patrick Thomas, states: “Because we did not get enough response to our recruitment efforts, we decided to try to find engineers in the rest of Europe, focusing on Portugal, Spain and Greece. That is when we started to investigate the services of EURES.”
QSpin was pleased to hear about the services EURES could offer them, in particular, Patrick noticed the news coverage on the Lisbon Job Fair organised by EURES in October 2012. Patrick’s next step was to contact EURES Advisers in Belgium to enquire about whether QSpin could participate in job fairs abroad. Patrick received a positive reply from EURES and the cooperation has grown from there: “From that time on, I’ve been kept up-to-date about the different activities of EURES.” In addition to the opportunity to participate in international job fairs, EURES also offers the possibility of job offers being published in EURES countries free of charge, and the option of EURES giving presentations to new employees about living and working conditions in their new country.
Successful job matches
Following QSpin’s participation at the job fair in Lisbon, the company was successful in hiring two Portuguese engineers. Frederico Cadete, one of these engineers, comments on his experience moving to Belgium: “The transition is still not over, but it has been a very refreshing experience! I like to ‘explore’ how things work in another country which is similar to mine, but very different in the details.”
Additionally, QSpin received a lot of responses to the advertisements they published on the EURES Portal. As a consequence of these, the company hired a third engineer from Germany. “For a small company like ours the cooperation with EURES can be considered a big success. We will certainly continue to participate in EURES fairs in the future,” Patrick explains. This success illustrates the benefits of cooperation between EURES and small- and medium-sized enterprises.
