EURES helps German jobseeker to land a job at Volvo in Sweden

When German IT administrator Florian Götzl decided to sample working life in a different EU Member State he turned to EURES for help. Florian ended up landing a dream job with Volvo IT in Gothenburg, Sweden after receiving solid advice from a local EURES Adviser.
Last summer, Florian was working in Wörgl, Austria but he and his fiancée wanted to try somewhere different and so began looking for work opportunities abroad. It was while ‘googling’ for jobs market information that Florian came across EURES and its network of advisers.
In the summer of 2012, he decided to make a trip to check out the job opportunities in Gothenburg, and while there he made an appointment to see EURES Adviser Olof Person.
“As well as assessing local work opportunities, Olof took me through the process of making a good-quality job application for the Swedish labour market,” explains Florian. “He showed me the best way to present information to local employers and pointed out the differences between the German and Swedish ways of completing applications – such as the way CVs are laid out.”
Key move
Florian then applied for a job with Volvo IT, which is one of the area’s largest employers. It is also a company with an international outlook and regularly employs people from abroad – a key consideration for Florian who is still learning Swedish.
Florian successfully interviewed for a job in IT administration and began work with the company in November 2012.
“I’m enjoying the job very much – the team I’m working with has been very welcoming and supportive,” says Florian. “My fiancée and I are enjoying our new life in Sweden. I’d certainly recommend people have a chat with the EURES Advisers – they understand the local job markets and can offer good, practical advice on finding work.”
