EURES helps business owner broaden the recruitment search

René Bartels, owner of RBC Engineering Support, a Dutch company located in the Netherlands and in Germany that manufactures construction machines and equipment, is looking for highly-qualified candidates. His search for the right profiles was easier said than done – that is, until he discovered EURES.
After discovering and contacting the EURES network, RBC Engineering Support quickly multiplied its connections and experiences with employees from all over Europe, and found the highly-qualified engineers it was looking for. This left the company’s owner, René Bartels, in no doubt as to the benefits of contacting EURES when recruiting in Europe. “We’re always looking for good people, but it’s very difficult to get highly-educated people,” explains René. With economic growth evident in his sector, talented jobseekers and job changers are more than welcome to apply. However, there are “less and less good profiles available in the Netherlands as well as in Germany,” says René.
The company is mainly looking for engineers. Trying to fill these positions, René explained his situation to the local employment agency, which in turn directed him to the EURES network. “We had a very good first contact with a EURES Adviser, who told us what we can do and how the network functions”.
After putting the company’s vacancies on the EURES portal, interesting CVs started coming in thick and fast. Some of the first responses came from Portugal, the Czech Republic and Italy and René rapidly hired one of the applicants from Portugal. Satisfied with his new recruit, he decided to attend a European Job Days event with a view to making further contacts: “The quality of the profiles was very good and we made some good connections,” says René.
RBC Engineering Support is an internationally oriented company, so language skills are particularly sought after: “We work with a lot of countries, so as long as an employee speaks good English, it’s fine for us. And often, they’re willing to learn the language of the new country, which proves that they are motivated to adapt,” enthuses René.
In the past two years, the company has recruited two people abroad and continues to participate in EURES events around Europe. During the last event in Prague, Czech Republic, René identified six good candidates to follow up with. After initial Skype interviews, several interesting profiles emerged. “There are always benefits to hiring new, but experienced people, and their new ideas are a real added-value,” René concludes.
