EURES France is now using a “job dating” formula to offer niche recruitment events. The “1st ICT speed-recruiting” was held in Metz, France, for candidates willing to work in Luxembourg. Over 50 % of candidates are due to be contacted again by the employers at the recruitment event...
The idea of speed-recruiting is to allow as many jobseekers as possible to have useful and fruitful face-to-face meetings with employers - each lasting ten minutes. It’s a snapshot interview where the employer and candidate can make an important first contact, and both can see if they would be interested in taking the process further.
“’Speed-recruitment’ offers a different sort of recruitment event to the classic job fair,” explains Eric Barthélémy, EURES Adviser and organiser of the event. “The advantage for jobseekers is that they can have a guarantee of an interview where they know the company is interested – it can help you become more focused in your job search, plus you can prepare efficiently for the recruitment event.”
Prior to the event, the jobseekers received information about the companies present and job vacancies available at these companies. The jobseekers could then send their CV and request for a time slot with a particular employer or employers that interested them. This allowed the “speed-recruiting” to be focused: there were 96 jobseekers and 11 companies taking part – and 67 job vacancies available.
The EURES team helped with the initial pre-selection process, and the list of candidates was then sent to the employer for their approval.
It isn’t the first time that the team in Lorraine has hosted such an event. Earlier this year there was a similar event to recruit cleaning and maintenance personnel. Out of the 38 people who attended the event for cleaning personnel, 20 managed to find work for that summer period.
For the ICT speed-recruitment, 275 interviews took place, and roughly a third of jobseekers came from outside the Lorraine region, with candidates also travelling from Belgium and Luxembourg. “One candidate is already working just a few weeks after the event,” explains Eric, “Another is also now in the recruitment process following the event, and the companies told us they expect to be in contact with 50 % of candidates, mostly via Skype for a second interview,” finishes Eric.
The event was rated highly by candidates and employers alike. “It’s definitely an event to be repeated!” wrote one participant after the speed-recruiting event, “the employers invited to this event were so friendly and ready to listen”. The employers too were extremely happy with the event. “We would like to thank you for the warm welcome that you gave us yesterday and the readiness of your whole team to help us,” commented one employer after the event. “Our feedback is positive - we really feel that there was a good job done in terms of selecting the CVs.”
