Short overview of the labour market

 

Šiauliai County is located in the north of Lithuania and covers parts of western Aukštaitija and Žemaitija ethnographic regions. The county consists of Šiauliai town and the municipal territories of Akmenė, Joniškis, Kelmė, Pakruojis, Radviliškis and Šiauliai. In terms of size, Šiauliai County is the second largest county in the Republic of Lithuania with an area of 8 540 km² (13.1% of the territory of Lithuania). The population of Šiauliai County makes up one-tenth of the national population, making it the fourth most populous county in Lithuania. According to the data from Statistics Lithuania, the population of Šiauliai County is 265 576 (107 086 in the city of Šiauliai), of which: - Lithuanians account for 95.67%, - Russians for 2.66%, - Ukrainians for 0.31%, - Polish for 0.14%, and Belarusians and other ethnic groups for 0.22%. The majority of the population live in urban areas, and 39%  in rural areas.

Šiauliai County is rapidly acquiring intellectual and industrial potential. Agriculture and the processing of agricultural products are key to the county's economy. The textile, electronic, IT and plastic finishing industries are developing in Šiauliai town. Šiauliai is famous for TV sets and bicycles produced here.
