On 1 February 2020 the number of the unemployed in the country was 157 800 (9.2% of the country’s working-age population). 25 900 job offers are registered in the Employment Service’s information system. As compared to January 2019, demand has increased by 23.6%. About 96% of all job offers were for an indefinite period of time. Like in 2019, in 2020 IT sector professionals will be in demand. During the first half of 2019 IT sector professionals were among the best paid in terms of the average wage, e.g. software developers received on average EUR 2 156 before taxes. Engineers too remain in high demand on the market. The 2020 trends show that demand for teachers and healthcare professionals has grown. An analysis of the average wage data shows that the salary paid to physicians during the first half of 2019 almost equalled the average wage earned by IT sector professionals: general practitioners were on average paid EUR 2 107 before taxes.
